A question to refuting the opinion of a scholar who said that fasting without praying is rewarded:

Today, some Muslims in many Arab and Muslim countries fast Ramadan as a mere habit with which he shares the Muslim community. These people fast Ramadan without praying either enjoining or optional prayers. For long, we wondered the reasons why this bad phenomenon is increasing in these countries... But we found the answer when I read a book contained opinions of religious matters written by one of the good-reputed contemporary Muslim scholars. This scholar died a few years ago, May Allah forgive him and all of us. The opinion question we will recite here is a wrong one but with a very serious effect. For one scholar’s mistaken religious ruling results in misguiding millions of Muslims. There is no Power or Might but with Allah All-Mighty.

The opinion was the answer to a question asked by one of the public said:

: Does Allah accept the fasting of a person who lags on performing prayers or all the acts of worship are linked to each other and are inseparable?

The aforementioned scholar gave the following answer:

Man is rewarded for the good deeds he works and is punished for the good deeds he does not do… So, when we ask that who do not perform prayers to pray, we call him for one thing .. And what he did of the obedience is strength to the religion. To this deceased scholar we say: "May Allah All-Mighty forgive us and you!… Because you have lied  against Allah and His Prophet and thus misled many of the nation of Muhammad (Pbuh), with whom you are entrusted. With such a wrong opinion, you have misled them.
